Death toll in Peshawar suicide blast mounts to 15
PESHAWAR: The number of those people killed in Peshawar suicide attack has climbed to 15 including three police personnel while 24 others sustained injuries, Geo news reported Friday evening.
Earlier, eleven persons were killed and many hurt in two consecutive suicide attacks at investigation cell of CIA police station in cantonment area, according to preliminary reports meanwhile, another four people succumbed to their injuries at hospital during medical attainment.
Following the two back-to-back explosions, the Interior Minister Rehman Malik had directed the IG NWFP to submit the report of the incident whereas bomb disposal squad sources claimed that 50 kg explosive material was used in the blast.
According to reports, a person riding on a motorbike with a woman reached at the gate of the police station. When security official tried to stop the burqa clad woman, she detonated herself. Exchange of fire also took place between security personnel and motor biker. Another suicide bomber blew up an explosive laden car right after the first blast.
Official sources said 11 persons were killed in the attacks; however, hospital sources quoted the death toll 14. Several persons including children sustained injuries in the incident
CCPO Peshawar Liaquat Ali said apparently two suicide blasts carried out at the site; however, we are seeking opinion of bomb disposal squad.
The blasts severely damaged the building of police station and destroyed many vehicles. The injured including many prisoners have been rushed to hospital.
Interior minister Rehman Malik, MQM chief Altaf Hussain , leader of ANP Zahid Khan and other political leaders have strongly condemned the blast.
