Holbroke signals 17th amendment repealISLAMABAD: US special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbroke Wednesday said that the US government will provide Pakistan four MI-17 helicopters.

Talking to Geo News abroad plane, Holbroke said the relief funds of $110 million are not enough for the Malakand affectees.

Commenting on the Swat operation against the militants, he said Pakistan did what it should, adding his country has provided the Pakistan Army with the night vision binoculars.

On this occasion, he expressed reservations over the release of Jamatud Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, saying, “His release has disturbed us all.”

The Islamic countries could not come forward to help the Malakand affectees, Holbroke adding The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) should have helped them.

The chiefs of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) have agreed to end 17th amendment, adding there is no difference of opinion between Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari on the issue.

The militants in Buner, Malakand and the adjoining areas want to spoil the Pakistan of Jinnah, he added saying his country will not leave Pakistan alone at this critical juncture.
