Meet Stephanie Courtney, the star of Progressive Auto Insurance commercials. The 39-year-old actress plays Flo, the brunette who is overly enthusiastic for car insurance.
Perhaps it’s her over the top persona, or her retro hairstyle or her ridiculously bright red lips, Courtney has garnered quite a bit of attention.
Does she really wear that much make-up ? Is she at all like the character Flo ?
“It’s me at my silliest.” Says Courtney, “You start off with a script, but at the end they usually let me put a little zinger in there. We put a little mustard on it. That’s when it gets fun. Flo could be one of my improv characters, always on and sort of cracked in a weird way.”
Two hours of hair and makeup transform Stephanie Courtney into Flo, the Progressive Auto Insurance seller.
“They tease my hair, spray it and stick the headband in it. And the makeup is like painting a portrait on my face. It’s insane. It totally changes things on my face. It’s like having a mask on,” says the actress.
Courtney also appears in a TV commercial for Glade air freshener and has a recurring role on AMC’s series ‘Mad Men’ but you won’t even recognize her without that make-up. She’s recently married and lives in Los Angeles.
